Less than a week after a severe head injury that required surgery, a Little League baseball player from Utah has been moved from the ICU into a regular room at a Pa. hospital.
Easton Oliverson’s parents, Jace and Nancy said on Facebook that Easton, 12, “has been sitting up in a chair and was able to stand up and take two steps with support.”
He also drank and fed himself and has been communicating with his family.
“His voice has been significantly more clear when he talks! He asked Nancy about his hair, and why he was there.”
Easton, they said, had a “very emotional” reaction when he was told that his little brother, Brogan, 10, is flying in from Utah to play on the Snow Canyon All Stars team tomorrow in its Little League World Series debut in South Williamsport. Brogan is taking his brother’s place on the field.
“He is making great strides, and we as a family couldn’t be more grateful. At this time, we would like to ask specifically for prayers of understanding and peace for Easton as he comes to learn of and accept the situation that he is now in. As always- THANK YOU, WE LOVE YOU!!”
Easton fell from a bunk bed in a player dorm on Monday and fractured his skull. He was taken to Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital where he underwent surgery. Yesterday, his family announced that Brogan, an alternate on the team, was approved to play instead of Easton.
The Snow Canyon All Stars from Santa Clara, Utah, will take the field at 3 p.m. ET tomorrow, representing the Mountain Region. The series started Wednesday, Aug. 17.
Easton has received messages of support from his favorite MLB player Mookie Betts and from members of the Brigham Young University football team. In Utah, several fundraisers are being held to raise money for his family.
Jace Oliverson, an assistant coach for the Snow Canyon team, said he will be coaching tomorrow.
Right after the accident, Little League International immediately had bunk beds removed and said that all bed frames must now rest on the floor.
Easton Oliverson plays for the Snow Canyon All Stars Little League team from Utah. The team is the first ever from Utah to compete in the Little League World Series.
